I've been thinking about sympathy, empathy and compassion and how we act upon and relate to them. It seems to me sympathy is feeling pity and sorrow for someone and empathy is understanding how someone feels from a place of true knowing. Compassion is having a deep sympathy, feeling empathetic without being overtaken by the emotion and holding it gently in the light, bringing some comfort or aid, being in a state of loving kindness. I think what the world needs lately is more compassion. I'm asking the compassion critters to come and help us figure out how to spread it around.
